Finnix 89.1 Released

  • Posted by Ryan Finnie on April 13, 2007, 8:55 pm

Finnix is a small, self-contained, bootable Linux CD distribution for system administrators, based on Debian testing. Today marks the release of version 89.1 for the x86/AMD64, PowerPC, and UML/Xen platforms.

Finnix 89.1 is a maintenance and bugfix release. Base system has been dist-upgraded to Debian's 2007-04-03, the day etch was marked stable. "testcd" boot option has been fixed on the PowerPC platform. The ipcalc package has been added, and the finnix-3ware-install package has been upgraded to 9.4.1. ssh-agent is now started at boot-time, and is shared among all VTs.

I try to find out a way to configure and manage a RAID5 set on my PowerMac (Dual 450MHz G4 with SuperDrive DVD) with 3Ware 9550SX controller.
If I boot it with Finnix CD, would it work? Or I need to do anything like apt-get install finnix-3ware-install and setup the management utility tw_cli on my harddisk?

    Thanks in advance

finnix-3ware-install is a command that will download the tw_cli utility (tw_cli itself is closed source so it will not be included with Finnix directly). However, 3ware does not release Linux PowerPC tw_cli binaries, x86 and AMD64 only, so there is no way to manage 3ware arrays from Linux on PowerPC.

(Finnix will still mount 3ware arrays, since the kernel modules are open source and included with Linux.)
